Philosophy of the blog:
Curating an online space to maintain discourse that ultimately furthers critical thinking and media literacy in understanding current events, hot topics in media and media history, and the confidence to add to these conversations. Highlighting the importance of online discourse is to hold regard for understanding the nuances of differing voices and its influence on perspective, therefore developing public interest in complexities of news and media.
Expectations of Community:
Comments are open to any and all. The idea is to, again, maintain online discourse that welcomes perspectives and furthers conversations that ultimately develop public interest. The goal is to avoid polarization of engagement that often welcomes disinformation, rather safely initiates healthy discourse of potentially differing viewpoints.
In the case of inappropriate comments, I am fully trustful of the judgement of this community to flag harmful content. This is in regards to comments that perpetuate hate speech in all of its various forms or comments that do not healthily add to conversations/discourse. In these instances, I feel it is my duty to remove these comments and ban individuals entirely in effort to reduce harm and reduce the opportunity for vital conversations online to redirect attention to topics that do not add value.
